Grumbles

Privacy Policy

Last updated 15 July 2026

This policy explains what Grumbles collects, why, and the choices and rights you have. We aim to collect only what we need to run the app well.

Who we are

GRUMBLES LIMITED is the controller of your personal data. We are a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16709360), with our registered office at 102 Bowen Court, St Asaph Business Park, St Asaph, LL17 0JE.

This policy is governed by UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who can use Grumbles

Grumbles is for adults aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has given us their data, contact us and we'll delete it.

What we collect

We collect the information we need to run Grumbles:

  • Account details: your name, email address and a username.
  • Content you create: your posts, replies, supports, reposts, the interests you choose, and any images you upload.
  • Location: if you tag a place on a grumble, the precise location of your device at that time, kept private and never shown to others.
  • Profile information: an optional bio and a rough country derived from your device settings, which you can change at any time.
  • Technical information needed to run the app, such as your authentication token and basic app information.
  • Safety information: the blocks, mutes and reports you make, so we can keep the community safe.

Face ID and biometric unlock

If you turn on Face ID (or another biometric) to unlock the app, that check happens entirely on your device using your device's secure systems. We never see, collect or store your biometric data.

Location and places

When you add a place to a grumble, Grumbles asks for your device location. Your precise location is used to suggest nearby places to tag, and is stored privately alongside that post so we can understand which parts of the country Grumbles is used in.

These coordinates are never shown to other users or published anywhere. You can allow or decline location access at any time in your device settings. Declining simply means nearby places are not suggested and no location is stored.

How we use your information, and why we're allowed to

We only use your personal data where the law allows. Our main uses and lawful bases are:

  • To provide Grumbles: create your account, show your posts and build your feeds. Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you.
  • To personalise your experience: use the interests you choose to surface grumbles you're more likely to care about. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests, guided by the choices you make.
  • To understand where Grumbles is used: the private location stored with place-tagged posts helps us see which areas the app is used in. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests.
  • To keep the community safe and enforce our Terms: review reports, moderate content and handle blocks and mutes. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests and our legal obligations.
  • To maintain, secure and improve the app. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests in running a reliable, secure service.
  • To meet legal and regulatory obligations. Lawful basis: compliance with a legal obligation.

What we don't do

We don't sell your personal data, and we don't use it for third-party advertising.

Sharing your information

Your public profile and posts are visible to other people on Grumbles: that's the point of the app, so think before you post.

We use a small number of trusted providers to help us operate and host Grumbles. They act only on our instructions, are bound to keep your data secure and confidential, and may only use it to provide services to us. Where your data is processed or stored, we take steps to ensure it is protected by appropriate safeguards.

We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users, the public or Grumbles.

How long we keep it

We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account we deactivate it and remove your public profile from Grumbles, then delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we need to keep limited information to comply with the law or resolve disputes.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Ask us to delete your data (the right to erasure).
  • Ask us to restrict how we use your data.
  • Object to certain processing, including processing based on our legitimate interests.
  • Receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw your consent at any time where we rely on it.

Exercising your rights

You can exercise many of these rights directly in the app: you can edit your profile, change your interests, block or mute others, and delete your account from Settings.

To make any other request, contact us using the details below. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk, though we'd ask you to contact us first so we can try to put things right.

Keeping your data secure

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No service can be completely secure, so please help by keeping your login details and device secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes we'll let you know in the app or by other reasonable means.
